Preventative Dentistry

We strongly believe in taking a preventative approach to dental care. More than just cleaning your teeth these visits allows us to maintain your health and catch problems early.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Your smile is the first impression others have of you so it makes sense that you would want it to be bright white and healthy. Cosmetic dentistry, general and restorative dentistry often overlap in a single visit. These range from in office zoom whitening, tooth coloured fillings, crowns, veneers, dental implants and orthodontics.

Tooth extractions

When teeth are damaged beyond repair an extraction becomes necessary. The missing tooth can be replaced by means of an implant, bridge or denture.

Root canals

Root canal treatment is valuable dental procedures used to treat and salvage badly decayed or infected teeth. Root canal treatments remove the damaged and infected parts of a tooth and using our modern equipment and materials we can usually complete the procedure in 1 or 2 visits.

MEET DR ADAMS

Dr Adams graduated from the University of the Western Cape in 1999.

He started working at various private practices in Cape Town and Durban as well as service rendering at Red Cross children’s hospital. He joined a Cape Town practice as an associate in 2001 and has since taken over the practice.

Dr Adams has attained a post graduate Diploma in Implantology and also enjoys keeping abreast of the latest developments by attending courses both locally and internationally.

With his compassionate and easy going nature, Dr Adams delivers comprehensive, precision driven treatment aimed at patients needs.

DR MATTHEWS

Locum dentist

Dr Matthews qualified at the University of the Western Cape in 1997,  followed by 2 yrs of service rendering post-grad. She has worked in private practices in Cape Town and also at the UWC dental faculty as a clinical supervisor in conservative and paediatric dentistry.

Dr Matthews has completed post diplomas in paediatrics. She has a special interest in inhalation sedation and interceptive orthodontics.

KASHIEFA VAN NIEKERK

Dental Assistant

A board qualified dental assistant and registered with Health Professions Council, friendly, well rounded and competent. Very meticulous in sterilisation and infection control procedures and ensures that dental procedures run effeciently.

SHAMSUNESA CASKER

Oral Hygienist

Shamsunesa qualified at UWC in 1998. She maintains the preventative side of the dental profession. Adept at whitening procedures and providing patients with the correct knowledge in oral care.

AMIENA HOOSAIN

Accounts Department

A level headed and efficient accounts lady who has been in dentistry for 24yrs, doing accounts and dental assisting. She is well familiarised with medical aids rules and regulations and sees that the practice runs smoothly and effeciently.

ZORINA ‘ZOE’ VAN EYSLEND

Receptionist

Zoe has been in the dental profession for over 35 years, an experienced dental assistant having worked at five different practices including the practice of Dr Shamyl Adams. She has been in his employment for 15 yrs and has managed the reception for the past 10yrs, which she thoroughly enjoys.

Sedation Dentistry

At Dr Adams we are able to provide 3 different types of sedation dentistry.

  • Oral sedation: We prescribe a pill that you take prior to your appointment to alleviate anxiety and helps you to relax
  • Inhalation sedation:  Also known as laughing gas. Nitrous oxide offers the patient a relaxing and euphoric feeling that makes dental treatments more pleasant.
  • Intravenous sedation: This is a deeper sedation for patients who want little or no memory of their dental visits. It is administered by an anaesthetist at our rooms.

Dental implants

Dental implants are titanium screw devices that support permanent crowns or bridge. The implants are anchored in the bone beneath the gums where the implant becomes fused to the bone. A crown is the fitted on top of the implant for a long lasting and natural looking tooth. Implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth or to restore an entire mouth.

Same day crowns

We know your time is valuable and that’s why we have invested in the newest technology. We are proud to offer CEREC computerised one visit crowns. This German technology has been around for more than 30yrs and is constantly evolving.

Dr Adams has been using CEREC to restore teeth and smiles for the past 10yrs

Cone beam 3D imaging

Cone beam 3D images are similar to images taken through CT scans but far less radiation and in less time. The scan takes approximately 10 seconds and the images produced differ from traditional x-rays in that will be 3 D view of the entire area scanned. The images can be sliced and manipulated to ensure accuracy and precision. What’s more is that we can now plan implant placement very precisely and make special ‘drill guides’ to guide the placement of implants making it more accurate and safer for the patient.

I’ve been through my fair share of dentists and I cannot recommend Dr Adams enough. He’s so good that I travel 50+ kilometres every time I need to see a dentist. He is gentle but firm and his rates are fair. This is the only dentist I would recommend.
